Apart from payment on the Internet, the GeldKarte is accepted in public transport, at parking garages, public telephones, and cigarette machines. Customers can pay simply and anonymously. Neither name, bank details nor any other personal data will be transferred.
Cashless
payments on the Internet are as simple as paying at the cash desk or at vending
machines. At the checkout of the online shop the customer just has to click on
the "Pay" button and the browser opens a seperate window, in which the
current condition of the process is evident. The customer confirms the name of
the merchant and the amount. After this authorization the monetary value is
debited from the GeldKarte. The payment is guaranteed for the merchant and so the
goods can be delivered immediately.
The GeldKarte is the ideal Internet payment method for products or virtual goods, which require an immediate and guaranteed payment, e.g. music download, ring tones, software or data base inquiries. SmartPay is approved by the Central Loans Committee of the German banking industry (ZKA). It complies totally with the stringent specifications laid down by the ZKA for the secure use of pre-paid cards on the Internet.
The customer just needs a chip card reader for payment on the Internet with the GeldKarte. The installation of software is not required. The communication with the chip card reader is processed via a Java applet, which is loaded automatically during a AVS- or payment transaction.
For more information about the GeldKarte and chip card readers please see the following paper (only available in German) "Informationen zum Thema GeldKarte und Chipkartenleser im Internet".
